People are welcome to bring something to eat during the workshop.

Too many artists undersell their work in grant applications—not because the work isn’t powerful, but because they haven’t yet found the voice that truly sees its value and knows why it matters.

In this workshop, artists will move through guided reflection and honest, brave-space conversations to deepen their relationship with their own why and let it shape how they write. From that grounded place, participants will learn to write from a voice that genuinely sees the value of their work that doesn’t shrink or wait for permission to take up space on the page. That voice becomes the foundation for grant language that speaks with conviction about the impact of their work, the communities it reaches, and why it is urgent and essential right now. You’ll leave with a voice that doesn’t apologize or over-explain and instead, one that advocates for your work with clarity, confidence, and the kind of authentic urgency that makes funders pay attention.

To get the most out of the workshop, participants are invited to come with a past or current project in mind and a prepared 3 to 4 sentence project description to use as the basis for their grant writing practice.

About the Instructor:
Judy Lee is a Narrative Artist and Community Care Advocate whose work bridges the empathy gap between systems of oppression and the ways they shape the lived experiences of marginalized communities. Collectivist-minded and community-driven, she supports emerging artists by amplifying accessible exhibition opportunities and providing free grant support. Judy is an experienced workshop facilitator focused on personal growth and most recently led an art workshop at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
