SUMMARY:The Joy of Getting Lost in Art: Exploring Creative Flow with Alison DeRiemer
DESCRIPTION:The Joy of Getting Lost in Art: Exploring Creative Flow with Alison DeRiemer \nTuesday\, December 8th\, 6-7:30pm \nFREE but you MUST RSVP in order to get the ZOOM link! (will be sent closer to the class date.) \nDo you feel stuck and endlessly distracted in your artistic process\, when all you\nwant to do is sit down and joyfully create? This class will provide a brief scientific background\nbehind “the flow state\,” that magical experience when action seems effortless. When in this state\,\nyou naturally silence your inner critic\, or the idea of “self\,” and allow the subconscious self to\nemerge and create without judgment. Using oral histories\, we will hear quotes from artists in the\nPacific Northwest and beyond about their artistic practices and how these rituals and mindsets\ncan maximize the likelihood of tapping into the “flow.” Ideas and exercises for adjusting your\nartistic practice will be provided. \nAlison DeRiemer (she/her) is an archivist and oral historian who is interested in the stories\nand practices of artists. She has managed an oral history project pertaining to women artists for\nthe Smithsonian Archives of American Art\, and she currently catalogs films for the Archives.\nShe has previously worked with oral history collections for the National Nordic Museum\, the\nBallard Historical Society\, and the Washington State Jewish Historical Society. She is based in\nPortland\, Oregon\, and has lived in the Pacific Northwest for 15 years. In her spare time\, she\nenjoys reading and writing\, dabbling in fiber arts\, cooking\, and enjoying nature. She has a BA in\nPsychology and Art History\, and an MA in Museology.

SUMMARY:Body Mapping Joy in Times of Grief: A Mini-Zine Workshop with Hana Park Lee
DESCRIPTION:Body Mapping Joy in Times of Grief: A Mini-Zine Workshop \nSaturday\, December 12th\, 1-3pm\, Free \nAt Happy Time Studio in Issaquah – RSVP (LIMITED SEATING) \nWe often chase happiness in our lives but joy is a more powerful balm that we can cultivate and access during good times and bad. This workshop explores the grief we carry in our bodies and uses joy mapping to explore where we already carry and feel joy in both ourselves and through our communities. Through group discussion\, meditation\, and our own creativity\, we will create mini-zines to take home and reference so we can access joy anytime. Paper and art supplies will be provided or you can bring your own. \nHana Park Lee is a Narrative Artist and Community Care Advocate who creates community-centered projects designed for social impact. Using portraits as a therapeutic tool for reflection\, Hana centers the stories of people living with marginalized identities to bridge the empathy gap between individual experiences to systems of oppression. She recently changed her name from Judy (given to her by a school administrator when she registered for 1st grade) to Hana\, which means “one” in Korean\, as an act of self-reclamation and to represent the recent integration of self during her healing journey.
